What is the Youth Leadership Summit?

The Youth Leadership Summit is a youth initiative developed collaboratively by the National Association of Partners in Education and Booz Allen Hamilton.

This year, 20 High school students will be chosen to participate in the Youth Leadership Summit. Selected youth leaders will attend the Symposium along with approximately 1200 educators, school administrators, business, and community leaders from across the country and around the world.

The Youth Leadership Summit will begin a process of identifying an International Agenda for youth involvement to become part of the solution to address the challenges faced in education and business. 

Who should apply?

Do you have leadership potential? Do you want to make a difference? You can apply to be one of the 20 students selected to be part of the Youth Leadership Summit and help create the International Youth Agenda for Partnership Leaders.

All high school students who will have completed the 9th, 10th, or 11th grades by the end of the 2001-2002 school year are eligible.

Participants from the 2001 Youth Leadership Summit are invited to apply to serve on the 2002 Youth Leadership Council.  Council members will serve as email mentors and peer partners to the 2002 Youth Leaders in addition to other assigned duties during the Symposium. A total of 5 Youth Leadership Council members will be selected.

How do I apply?

All students who are interested in applying to be a part of the Youth Leadership Summit must fill out an application that must be postmarked by June 21, 2002.

If you participated in the 2001 Youth Summit in Alaska as a Youth Leader and are applying to return as a Youth Council Member, please complete the Youth Council application and postmark it by June 21, 2002. Click to download a copy of the Application for Youth Council Member.

What will I do at the Youth Leadership Summit?

All Youth Leaders will work collectively to establish the International Youth Agenda for Partnership Leaders. This will help business and community leaders and school administrators to understand the issues that students want to see addressed on improving the quality of business/community/education partnerships in the nation.

The Youth Leadership Summit will be held during the National Symposium on Partnerships in Education. This year the Symposium is being held jointly with the 6th International Partnership Conference. The theme for the event: “Learning,
Employability and Citizenship”. 2002 Youth Leaders can expect to participate in a full range of Symposium activities including plenary sessions, workshops, forums and study visits. Special social activities will be planned by the Youth Leadership Council.

When is the Youth Leadership Summit?

The Youth Leadership Summit will be held November 19-24, 2002 in Washington, D.C. at the Booz Allen Hamilton offices in McLean,VA. The National Symposium on Partnerships in Education will be held at the Wardman Park Marriott in
Washington, D.C. Youth will stay in a Virginia hotel located close to the Booz Allen Hamilton Offices. 

What will I get out of this experience?
Participating youth will have the opportunity to be mentored by a staff person from Booz Allen, a top level management and technology consulting firm, travel to Washington, D.C., and meet youth from around the globe. And most importantly, the opportunity to be a part of a core group of youth creating an international agenda for change in educational partnerships with the business community. 

If selected, how will I fund my trip to Washington, DC?

Transportation, lodging, and incidental expenses will be the responsibility of the youth, their family, school, and/or community partners. After being selected, Youth Summit Leaders will receive a packet of public relations and fundraising materials from the National Association of Partners in Education that will provide youth with fundraising ideas to offset the personal cost of travel and accommodations.

Scholarships will be made available to qualifying Youth Leadership Council Members. 

Who will chaperone the Youth Leadership Summit?
Chaperones will be provided in Washington, D.C. for the duration of the Symposium to ensure the safety and comfort of the youth. These chaperones will be recruited from the regional staff of Booz Allen and the Partners in Education Network.
May my parents attend?

All parents are welcomed to attend the Youth Leadership Summit. Parents attending will be required to pay a registration fee and should keep in mind that all youth are expected to participate in the Youth Leadership Summit and Symposium at the required times.
