SERVICE-LEARNING IN A NUTSHELL

Strand Focus:
Citizenship

Abstract: Based on a state/ national model, this session illustrates the who, what, where, when and how of service-learning. Participants will learn how service-learning connects to school-to-career initiatives, and its role in education today. The definitions and rationale will be highlighted through a short video illustrating a model program. The major components necessary for the management of a successful service-learning program and the role of partnerships will be illustrated as participants are “walked through” the how to’s. Activities such as a SWOT analysis and brainstorming integration ideas will also be included.
